“Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.”– Bertrand Russell
While blind faith in our intuition is risky, it’s a far greater risk to listen to the opinions of the great majority of advisers, who have been trained to look for the downside. They collect stories of all the reasons it probably won’t work, and few have the gift of abstract thinking and vision.
Seeking the best advice on finance, fundraising and legal issues is smart and necessary. When that advice creeps over the line to vet your vision and concept, as it often does, your mental alarm should sound. If everyone paid attention to the horror stories offered by many legal and financial advisers, there would be few new enterprises.
Seek out a mentor or coach who has walked the path you are embarking on. When you listen openly and with an authentic desire to add to your own knowledge, you will recognize the nuggets of truth and wisdom, and can confidently leave the rest by the side of the road.
